1909年11月间,屈伯川诞生在四川 省沪县衣锦乡。7岁到16岁在家乡读四书、五经与《资治通鉴》等古书,我国古代文明给了屈伯川最初的精神滋养。1925年已是“五四”运动后的第六个年头,一股新风吹到了这个四川的偏僻农村。帮助屈伯川补习高小数学和英文的一个表兄,给他介绍了全国形势,引发了他要到省外去考大学、见世面的愿望。取得父母同意后,跟随表哥一起到了南京。经过认真的准备,屈伯川考上了国立东南大学(中央大学前身)附属中学初中二年级插班生。寒假后由于学校停办,才上了一学期“洋学堂”的屈伯川不无遗憾地辍学回家。但新的思潮已经在青年屈伯川的头脑里发生影响。为了继续深造,在半年时间里他闭门不出发奋攻
