Graphite fibers, Kevlar 49 and glass microfibers are increasingly used in various industrial sectors as filtration and construction materials. Advanced composites are made by adding graphite or Kevlar fibers to epoxy resins, both of which have significantly greater stiffness than glass fibers. Advanced composite materials tend to produce structural materials that are lighter and stronger than common materials such as aluminum, steel and fiberglass. Composites Boost Boeing 767 Efficiency The Boeing 767 is the first commercial jet aircraft to use a significant amount of advanced composite structural components. Advanced composite materials are lighter and stronger than common aluminum or glass fibers. Fuel consumption is reduced because the average weight of each part is reduced by 25% (in some cases, the part weight can be reduced by nearly 35%).
