A process for preparing polycarbonate from a phase interface process is disclosed. The process comprises (a) preparing a sodium hydroxide solution from a chlor-alkali electrolysis not exceeding 30 ppm of sodium chlorate solution relative to the weight of sodium hydroxide; (b) reacting with said aqueous sodium hydroxide solution to obtain a disodium salt solution; c) reacting the phosgene in the presence of at least one organic solvent, such as a chain terminator and optionally a branching agent, with phosgene to provide a polycarbonate; (d) condensing the polycondensation product in the presence of at least one catalyst Carbonate to give a polycarbonate and an organic solvent; (e) separating the organic solvent from the organic phase of the material.
