As China’s economic strength increases, more and more families send their children abroad to improve their foreign language and professional skills. The purpose of this paper is to use Schumann’s theory of Acculturation Theory as a theoretical guide to explore whether studying abroad for a period of time would have a positive impact on adult English learners’ writing ability. Through a one-year follow-up survey, the author analyzes the writing of four college English learners with intermediate English proficiency from three aspects: writing accuracy, vocabulary density and vocabulary diversity, in order to get the answer. Finally, the thesis explores the research trends in the field of second language acquisition writing and the possible research topics in the future.
