Background: At present, there are relatively few studies on the correlation between feeding behavior and infant development. Objective: To investigate the relationship between feeding behavior and infant nutrition development. Design: Cross-sectional investigation. Unit: First Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University Maternal and Child Health Center. PARTICIPANTS: The study was performed by the Maternal and Child Health Center of the First Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University from January 2000 to December 2002. A stratified cluster sampling method was adopted to collect 346 infants from 0 to 18 months in Fuping County and Chengcheng County in Weinan. Inclusion criteria for this study: infants and young children without obvious disease, gestational age greater than 37 weeks and ≤ 42 weeks without congenital abnormalities; Exclusion criteria: suffering from various congenital diseases and abnormal infants. A total of 324 persons meeting the above criteria are divided into 5 groups by age. Methods: An interview with the caregivers of infants and young children was conducted by using self-made questionnaire of infants and young children nutrition. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: (1) analysis of nutritional status of infants and young children at different ages; (2) analysis of nutritional status of infants and young children under different feeding patterns in 4 months; (3) nutritional supplement of complementary infants, Impact. Results: The rate of breastfeeding was high within 4 months of birth and the nutrition status of infants and toddlers was good. After 4 months, the infants with normal nutrition development had significant difference (P <0.01) when compared with the slightly malnutritional infants and young infants. Conclusion: There is a close relationship between infant nutrition development and feeding behavior.
