看图写话，即看图作文，应遵循“三步走”。下面就一题例进行说明：
根据上面四幅图画写一篇100字左右的短文。
第一步：（在确定人称和时态的基础上）用完整的一到二个切合题意的句子描述每幅图画，作为主题句。
图1：Tom and Jack went to business. Tom’s wife gave an umbrella to him.
图2：It was going to rain.
图3：Tom opened his umbrella and said, “My wife is clever.”
图4：Jack stepped under the umbrella and said,“My wife is more clever.”
第二步：在每个主题句前加上适当的过渡词，使上下文之间的逻辑关系衔接起来。常见的过渡词都是些表时间、地点等的副词、连词、介词短语或分词短语等，如：one day, first, second, next, then, and, and then, just then, at last, finally, on the way, first of all, besides, therefore, hearing this, before等等。
图1：One day, Tom and Jack went to business. Before leaving their hometown, Tom’s wife gave an umbrella to him.
图2：On the way, it was going to rain.
图3：Then Tom opened his umbrella and said, “My wife is clever.”
图4：Hearing this, Jack stepped under the umbrella and said,“My wife is more clever.”
第三步：根据图画提示要点及所要求的字数，补充个别所缺内容（包括最后的总结句）；检查全文，就短文中有关时态、人称、单词的拼写、语言的逻辑关系等做最后修改。
One day, Tom and Jack went to business. Before leaving their hometown, Tom’s wife gave an umbrella to him in case it rained. On the way, it was going to rain. Then Tom opened his umbrella and said, "My wife is clever. She knew it was going to rain, so she asked me to take an umbrella with me."Hearing this, Jack stepped under the umbrella and said,"My wife is more clever. She knew you would take an umbrella, so she did not ask me to take one." Who on earth was more clever?
