The NBA collective bargaining agreement is a contract between the league and the players’ unions that sets out the rules that must be followed by both the employer and the employee, such as the “salary cap”, the top and bottom salaries, the transfer rules, the draft picks, etc. These rules are guarantees for the NBA to maintain its operations . In 1970, the first labor agreement was signed between the employer and the employee, and three more in 1973, 1976 and 1980 respectively. There is a deadline for the collective agreement to be negotiated after it expires. If the negotiation fails, it may lead to a “shutdown.” The current collective bargaining agreement came into force in 2005 and ends on 30 June 2011. After the current collective bargaining agreement was signed, the alliance lost $ 217.000 a year for the first four years, compared to a loss of more than $ 370 million last season. From 2008 to 2009, there were 22 teams in the 30 teams with deficits. David - Stern all these problems are attributed to the players over the salary.
