American novelist Yudola Werty grew up in the South. His works are based on the rural life in the southern United States. They describe the lives of people living in the towns of the Mississippi River and are regarded as one of the spokesmen for Southern American literature. Unlike other southern writers, who did not bear the hatred of history nor waver for the loss of glory, Welti viewed the present and the future of the South in a calm and neutral manner. The family is an important theme of Weerti’s novels, depicting the inter-personal relationship through the details of family life such as marriage and funeral. With a simple family as a microcosm of the complex society, Weltie expressed his concern about the South and the challenges and adjustments his family faced under the changing times.
