The World Bank released the World Development Indicators 2001 on April 29, and the following are some relevant figures: 1. World Population Due to the high population growth rate in the past 50 years, the world population has increased from 2.5 billion in 1950 6.1 billion by 2000. In the current 10 years, the annual population growth rate is expected to be 1.1% and the world will have an additional 70 million people each year. 2. Economic Scale The gross domestic product of the world in 1999 was 32.5 trillion U.S. dollars, more than quadrupling from the actual value in 1960. Tractors There are 927 tractors per 1000 farmers in rich countries, compared with only 5 in poor countries. 4. Automobile rich countries have about 580 cars for every 1,000 people, while poor countries only have about 10 cars. 5. Use in rich countries with 15% of the world’s population
