(The Hsia Brothers and Chinese Literature:An Inter-national Symposium)在美国哥伦比亚大学的教授会馆举行。
The Hsia Brothers and Chinese Literature: An Inter-national Symposium was held at the professors’ association of Columbia University from October 28 to October 29, 2005 . More than 70 scholars from Mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Europe and the United States including Hannan, Lin Pei-Rui, Sun Kangyi, Ximei, Chen Pingyuan, Chen Guobu and Geng Dehua attended the event to discuss Xia Ji’an and Xia Chih-Kun Kun’s contribution to the study of Chinese literature to explore the possibility of developing the academic tradition pioneered by the Shar Brothers. Mr. Xia Zhiqing visited the venue and delivered many speeches. This issue of “Overseas Sinology” published by Professor Li Oufan and Professor Mei Jialing article is submitted to the conference proceedings. Professor Li Oufan’s “Door of Light and Darkness” profoundly reviewed the influence of the Shashi Brothers on him and made a careful review of the academic personality and academic contribution of the Shashi Brothers. Xiaji An, and Taiwan University, by Professor Mei Jialing, discussed the special significance of Xiaji’an in establishing a “literary magazine” from the perspective of the interaction between “cultural field” and “educational space.” The article provides a lot of valuable historical materials and is very helpful for studying the mentality of Mr. Xia Jian, an overseas sinologist. Wang Dewei called the Shakespearean brothers founding fathers in the field of modern Chinese literature in the United States. Indeed, the study of Chinese modern literature that they initiated has become an important branch of the North American Sinology, forming a distinctive line of traditional humanistic tradition. The study of the Shahi Brothers is not only a case study of sinologists, but also a reflection and perspective on this tradition in a certain sense.
