An iterative decoding scheme of convolution code and GMSK (Gaussian Minimum Shift Keying) modulator cascade system is proposed. In order to effectively utilize the information on the relevant characteristics of the signal, the receiver employs a multiple differential detector (MDD). The soft-input / soft-output maximum a posteriori probability (MAP) algorithm for GMSK signals under MDD is derived and then iterative decoding between the demodulator and the subsequent convolutional code decoder is implemented. Simulation results show that the AWGN (additive white Gaussian noise) and related Rayleigh fading channels have significantly improved system performance and can effectively overcome the severe intersymbol interference (ISI) inherent in GMSK signals
