采煤机在工作面割煤方式一般可分为单向割煤和双向割煤两种。单向割煤方式采煤机只在工作面一个端头斜切进刀,单向割煤,空刀返回,并清扫机道浮煤,往返割一刀;双向割煤方式采煤机在工作面两个端头斜切进刀,双向割煤,往返割两刀。不同的综采设备、工作面煤层赋存条件应选用相应的割煤方式,以便获得工作面高产。现以美国赛普路斯20英里矿高产高效综采工作面为例,计算两种不同割煤方式所获的产量。
