There is a desert only 47km from Yinchuan,the capital city of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region,and it is served by coaches and taxis from the city centre.The surprising thing is that the desert borders a lake,hence the name Shahu,which means sand and lake.The best time to visit there is between August and October,when the weather is neither too cold nor too hot,and the rich sunlight helps produce many nice photographs.
