Although piston and piston ring design details are the work of specialists such as Asso Engineering and Automotive Engineering, designers must be able to identify some key dimensions before developing a new engine. The basic dimensions that should be determined are as follows: 1. Piston pin diameter and thickness. 2. The thickness of the piston ring shore and the number and thickness of piston rings.
