1978年初,昆明工学院根据传统竖吹式旧砂气流再生机使用中的不足,进行了新结构的研究,创制出横吹式旧砂再生新结构,同年6月在北京试制成功之后,接着又进行了两次改进,经过四年多时间,于1982年7月制造出初步定型的3吨/时横吹式旧砂气流再生机,经过半年多调试,1983年已开始在昆明市第一铸造厂生产上使用,性能良好。1983年6月由云南省科委召开了全国性技术鉴定会通过并认为:此项按重力加砂横吹原理在国内首次研制成功的设备,设计方案具有自己的特色,工艺性能达到了旧砂再生的设计要求,确实能够代替新砂使用、降低了铸件成本、获得了较好的技术经济效果,同时减少了旧砂排放造成的环境污染,为中小型铸造车间,旧砂再生提供了一条新途径。
