The time has come to examine the actual role of cognitive science in moral theory. This article does not intend to make a broad study of the subject, but rather prepares to elaborate on the methods of cognitive science that are relevant to the content of moral philosophers’ concern. For the purposes of this article, “cognitive science” labels are used here in a wide range of contexts and include, for example, research into emotions or awareness of “hot” and “cold.”
