Background: Rumor has often been reported by parents that attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) has regular behavioral changes in children’s regular physical activity. This article aims to investigate the relationships in this “hearsay” and provide preliminary evidence of the potential benefits of physical activity in the treatment of ADHD symptoms. METHODS: Invited parents (68) of children who had been diagnosed with ADHD to complete an online survey to assess how physical activity affects their child’s symptoms. Results: A very high proportion of parents reported that regular physical activity had a positive effect on symptoms of ADHD, but not uniform on different types of ADHD symptoms. The results showed that physical activity had more positive effects on symptoms of “negligence” and “overdriving” relative to “impulsive” symptoms. Conclusion: This is the first empirical study of how physical activity affects parental perception in children with ADHD and suggests that physical activity may be a viable approach to alleviating symptoms of ADHD. If you have access to key messages about interventions for physical activity in children and adolescents, physical activity may be of greater benefit in alleviating some of the specific symptoms of ADHD.
