This article starts from Charles Taylor’s assertion that philosophy is inevitably history, attempting to examine several attempts to write the history of African philosophy. The author points out that, contrary to the philosophical experiences of many other regions, there is currently no comprehensive review of the history of African philosophy in different periods and periods of African philosophy. There are so many authors trying to recapitulate the history of African philosophy, but they are only referring to certain aspects and phases of African philosophy and therefore can not treat African philosophy as a coherent whole. Examining the strengths and weaknesses of these writings will make one recognize the need to write a comprehensive history of African philosophy and find out why there is no possible reason to work in this direction. Writing such a history will be the last resort to the history of Africa.
