Viktor Yanukovych, a veteran politician in Ukraine’s political arena, is also one of several veteran politicians who fiercely contested the country over the past decade in charge of the country’s supremacy. After Ukraine became independent, he served twice as prime minister but twice went out of office. Yanukovych victoriously declared victory in Ukraine’s presidential election in 2004, but was overthrown in the wake of the “Orange Revolution.” After a lapse of five years, he took the plunge and made a comeback. He eventually defeated Yulia Tymoshenko with a slight advantage and boarded the presidency, writing a political legend.
