The Library of Congress, near Capital Hill in Washington DC, has the oldest cultural institution in the United States. It was founded on April 27, 1800 and this year marks the 200th anniversary of the founding of the Museum. In 1851 Congress Library purchased Jefferson’s 6487 personal books for $ 23960. Therefore, Jefferson is known as the founder of LOC. LOC was once arson by the British colonial army, a fire destroyed two-thirds of the collection in 1851 and was largely supplemented.
