It has been demonstrated that there is a bombesin immunization (BLI) in gastrointestinal neurons. This may be part of the gastrointestinal peptide neurotransmitter system. The system may play a role in regulating the gastric secretion, endocrine and motor function. Previous studies have suggested that gastric BLI release is caused by the excitation of acetylcholine (Ach) and the peptide neurotransmitter. Since the discovery of opioid peptides such as Leu-enkephalin is also present in the autonomic nervous system of the gastrointestinal tract, the authors investigated the effects of exogenous and endogenous opioids on gastric BLI secretion. Rat stomach overnight fasted was perfused with Kerb-Ringer’s buffer. The solution contains 100 mg% glucose. The effluent is collected through the hepatic portal vein.
