提起苏格兰,人们也许会想起好莱坞电影《勇敢的心》。影片中,苏格兰高地上,那悠长的风笛声袅袅而至,这不禁让人想起苏格兰民族英雄华莱士反抗英格兰殖民统治的英勇事迹。历史上,苏格兰曾长期是独立王国,直到1707年与英格兰合并,成立大不列颠联合王国。然而,300多年的联合王国并未消弭民族之间的恩怨。随着“独派”民族党上台执政,苏格兰独立的声音越来越大。2014年9月18日,苏格兰政府将发起一场公投,让苏格兰选民决定是否脱离英国独立。而今年,也恰逢班诺克本之战700周年。14世纪,就是这场战役彻底改写了苏格兰历史,它因而成了苏格兰人千年以来最乐于回忆的瞬间。
Mention Scotland, and people may recall the Hollywood movie “Heart of Bravery.” In the film, the long sighs of bagpipes on the Scottish Highlands are reminiscent of the heroic deeds of Wallace, a Scottish national hero, against England’s colonial rule. Historically, Scotland had long been an independent kingdom until the United Kingdom was merged with England in 1707 to form the United Kingdom of Great Britain. However, the United Kingdom for more than 300 years did not eliminate the grudges among its peoples. With the “Independence Party,” the ruling National Party came into power, the voice of Scottish independence is growing. On September 18, 2014, the Scottish government will launch a referendum to let Scottish voters decide whether to leave the British independence. This year also coincides with the 700th anniversary of the Battle of Bannock. In the fourteenth century, it was the battle that completely overhauled Scotland’s history, which made it the moment most remembered by the Scots in thousands of years.
