地震地质学是研究地震和地质构造关系的一门新兴边缘科学。它既研究发生地震的地质条件,也强调研究强震带,强震区的分布规律。从而为地震的中长期预报,为划分地震危险带和危险区,提供必要的基础资料。 我国的地震地质工作是解放以后发展起来的,五十一六十年代主要是围绕“中国地震区域划分图”的编制,进行了我国新构造运动特点与地震关系的讨论,以及结合重大工程建设开展了一些专门性的地震地质工作。1966年以来,尤其是七十年代以来,由于地震预报研究的开展和许多大型工程建设的烈度鉴定,地震地质工作取得了更大进展,编制了大量区域性的和全国的地震地质基础图件。
