Bharati Mukherjee’s “The Tiger’s Daughter” mainly talks about the return journey of the Indian woman Tara who is educated by the United States. The protagonist is entangled in the gradually forgotten Indian memory and his own Americanized thoughts, continuously querying the identity of self-culture and finally realizing that she has become the native culture’s other. This novel with a strong autobiographical element profoundly expresses the essence of Indian immigrants represented by Tara, from closeness to alienation of the homeland culture.
