The pathogenesis of diabetic nephropathy (DN) is complicated. Polyol pathways, protein kinase C, advanced glycation end products and oxidative stress play an important role in the development of DN. These mechanisms do not exist in isolation. They interact and interact with each other to participate in the development of DN. Polyol pathway activation may be the initiating and contributing factor of chronic hyperglycemia to various tissue structures. Aldose reductase, as a key enzyme in the polyol pathway, may play an important pivotal role in this process.
