As language synthesis has become more dominant in information processing, the interest in composing languages on a regular basis continues to grow. What has come along with this interest has been towards increasing the flexibility of the synthesis system. This more flexible synthesis system allows users to describe in any language or modify the synthesis rules as needed. Cornell Speech Labs started to develop the SRS (Speech Research System) in 1975 and has been implemented on the PDP 11/40 computer.
