There are two main enemies in the development of cotton production in the second sub-division of Mosuo Bay: (1) the sand-packs have overlapping peaks and encircle the cultivated land; mobile dunes run across the fields; the fields are cut into several sections; and the management of cultivation is extremely difficult; Spring and early summer, sand everywhere, cotton seedlings were beaten pulpy. (2) Cultivated land has the characteristics of heavy clay, compaction, low ground temperature, uneven development of cotton seedlings, slow development and long-term growth in later period. In 1959, 19,694 hectares of cotton were sowed, with an average yield of only 15.6 kg of lint and a loss of more than half. In 1960, 19,292 hectares of sown cotton were planted and the average yield of lint was only 29.8 kg. The area of loss was still large. Therefore, when people mention cotton, they are somewhat timid.
