β-globin gene cluster is a good model for studying the regulation of eukaryotic gene expression, and its gene expression has erythroid tissue specificity and different developmental stage specificities. These specificities depend on tissue-specific and developmentally-specific trans-acting factors for interaction with cis-acting elements.
