位于本省廉江县的鹤地水库,是一个集雨面积1,440平方公里、最大库容11.5亿米~3、水面面积122平方公里的大型水库.库区上游的降雨量大小关系到水库的安危,过去采用人工测报,在往要数小时甚至一天后,才能收集到雨情资料.1982年开始,该水库管理局与广州南洋电器厂协作,安装了YD_1—100雨量远动装置,并于1984年经有关部门通过技术鉴定,使用效果良好.
