区内岩溶磷块岩矿床有500多个,具有点多、矿小、品位富的特点。贮藏在震旦纪和寒武纪石灰岩的沟谷洞穴中,成矿时代为第三纪上新世至第四纪更新世,属残坡积次生淋滤岩溶磷块岩矿床。 磷块岩矿石具有典型的凝胶碎屑结构,以胶磷矿为主、磷钙铝石为次的含磷矿物,与粘土和石灰岩碎屑混杂堆积,形成浸染磷块岩和凝胶磷块岩两种基本矿石类型。凝胶磷块岩矿石很少,但品位很富,P_2O_5含量一般都在30％以上。最高达到39.29％,并形成皮壳状、葡萄状、乳滴状、结核状等各种构造形态。浸染磷块岩矿石数量很多,但品位较贫,P_2O_5含量一般都在15％以下,个别达到20％左右,碎屑结构比较明显。 矿床中发现有牛、羊、鹿、獾、熊、蝙蝠、鸟类等各种动物化石,正是这些动物的柄生繁衍,使自然界分散的磷质得以集中。通过地下水的溶解,淋滤作用终以胶体聚沉或交代的形式次生富集为磷块岩矿床。
