MicroRNA-7 (miR-7) is a class of non-coding small RNAs first reported by Lagos in 2001. Three different DNA sequences are available for transcriptional processing into mature miR-7 molecules in both the human and mouse genome sequences. Recent studies have shown that miR-7 plays an important role in organ development such as the brain and pancreas, as well as in the development of related clinical diseases. In this article, we reviewed the progress of miR-7 related research both in tissue and organ development and clinical disease.
