General Concepts The late 1960s was a period of major changes in the thinking of Western societies. The cause was the outbreak of the energy crisis. In contemporary society, especially among young people and design schools, new understandings of global problems have emerged. In the past that excess supplies is a good thing, and that this excess is eternal, and now more and more people have questioned the consumer society. Man-made destruction of natural resources has reached an unacceptable level in industrially developed areas, and fresh air and clean water are no longer what everybody can enjoy. People are awakened by reveling in excess consumption, recognizing that maintaining ecological balance is a top priority of mankind, actively protecting natural wealth and even advocating full maintenance and utilization of ancient buildings.
