Urinary tract infections are more common in women. The authors counted 3,105 outpatients (1865 males and 1240 females) in the hospital where 1055 cases were urinary tract infections, including 772 females (73%). The reason why more women than men is because women have shorter urethra and genital structure makes it easier for bacteria to invade from the external urethra. And female genital organs close to the bladder, in the event of changes or abnormal location, often affect the lower urinary tract, causing urinary retention, and may become one of the causes of urinary tract infection. In addition, menstruation, pregnancy, childbirth and other unique physiological phenomena and infections are also more linked.
