The Jianghai site lies in the southwest of Shanghai City and is a newly discovered ancient cultural site. The cultural deposits consist mainly of Western Jin ash-pits,a Maqiao culture pottery-making kiln and Liangzhu culture tombs. The kiln-site shows rather clearly the structure of the kiln gate, flue, grate and bed.The tombs and other deposits are not rich.It is noticeable that there are two-three layers of sedimentary silt on the Liangzhu culture strata.Similar remins have been seen on the late Liangzhu culture layers of many sites in the Jiangsu,Zhejiang and Shanghai areas. This evidence and scientific surveys indicate that the silt on the Jianghai site is deposits originally washed from the upper courses of the Yangtze River and its tributaries, which reflects that the late Liangzhu culture people suffered violent floods taking place one after another.
