Urban poverty in Sub Saharan Africa is a formidable problem.The sheer magnitude of the numbers of urban poor poses for the city authority a nearly impossible task.In many African cities,the poor constitute half or more of the population.In the areas where these people live,there is a lack of almost everything:basic infrastructure like roads,water and electricity;basic services like health institutions,schools and waste collection;employment opportunities;decent housing;etc.In the case of Nairobi,the urban poor live a hard life.To improve the living condition of these people,the city authority should firstly admit that the slum dwellers are a fact of life,and secondly take various steps in which urban agriculture shoutd be a necessary one,because many of the poor urban dwellers rely for their livelihood on the production of crops or rearing of animals within the city boundaries.
