在当代中国,中国共产党的一切行为都不仅仅是为了政党自身的建设与发展。作为执政党,她正肩负神圣的历史使命,她正面对复杂的国内外形势。在今后相当长的一段时期里,中国共产党要完成的历史任务,可能比以往任何一个历史时期都艰巨,她肩上的担子,比世界上任何一个执政党都要重。那么,如何才能不辜负她所代表的最广大人民群众的重托?如何才能不断地为她的人民群众谋幸福?如何能让她的人民群众满意?可以说,除了与时俱进地提高政党素质、加强建设、提高执政能力之外,别无他途。而这一点,正是保持中国共产党先进性的题中应有之义。
