V 1 3784采自内蒙古苏尼特左旗IVPP 346地点西 1 .5km(美国自然历史博物馆中亚考查团推饶木诺尔地点TairumNorlocality ,又称南营地SouthCamp) ,属通古尔组下部
Tungurictisspocki is a new genus and species of small carnivorous species collected from the Middle Miocene Tungur Group in Inner Mongolia in 1939 by Colbert. He originally thought that Tungurra belonged to the family of civethes, but recently Hunt (1989) and Hunt and Solounias (1991) proposed that the Tungurgura has some characteristics of hyacinth ears (such as horizontally oriented bulbous membranes, etc.) But lacking the premolar teeth typical of hyena bones that are strong. Studies by Werdelin and Solounias (1991) on hyena branch systems further confirm that Tungurra is actually a primitive member of the hyena family. Therefore, the Tungura ferret became an important part of studying the initial evolution of Hyena family. The positive specimen of Tungurictisspocki (AMNH 2 660 0) is a fairly complete skull, but it is the only specimen obtained at the Museum of Natural History in Central America by the Central African Mission at Wolf Camp. The absence of the mandible and the crucial fractures is always a pity to study the hyena relationship. Therefore, the mandibular bone of the Sri Lanka Tungurgura, which was first discovered from the southern edge of the Tungur Plateau, is of great significance to deepen the understanding of this morphological feature and to the study of the hyena system. The newly discovered material (IVPPV 1 3784) contains most likely the first half of the same individual’s skull and the mandible, with P3 to M2 and m1 to m2 preserved.
