乔石1924年出生,浙江定海人。华东联合大学肄业。1940年8月加入中国共产党。曾在上海从事地下革命工作。新中国成立后,历任中共杭州市委青委书记,中共中央华东局青委统战部副部长。1954年至1962年任鞍钢工程技术处处长、酒钢设计院院长兼钢铁研究院院长。1963年后在中共中央对外联络部任局长、副部长、部长。1982年在中共十二大上被选为中央委员、书记处候补书记,先后任中共中央办公厅主任、中共中央组织部部长。1985年在中共十二届五中全会上增选为中央政治局委员、书记处书记兼中央政法委员会书记,1986年任国务院副总理。1987年在中共十三大上当选为中央政治局委员、政治局常委、书记处书记,中央纪律检查委员会书记。1989年兼任中共中央党校校长。
Qiao Shi was born in 1924, Zhejiang Dinghai people. East China United University industry. In 1940 August to join the Chinese Communist Party. He worked in underground revolutionary work in Shanghai. After the founding of New China, he served successively as the secretary of the CPC Central Committee’s Hangzhou Municipal Committee and the deputy director of the United Front Work Department of the East China Committee of the CPC Central Committee. From 1954 to 1962, he served as Director of Engineering Technology Division of Ansteel, Dean of Jiugang Design Institute and Dean of Steel Research Institute. After 1963, he served as director, deputy minister and minister in the liaison department of the CPC Central Committee. In 1982 at the 12th CPC National Congress was elected as member of the Central Committee, secretary of alternate secretary, served successively as director of the General Office of the CPC Central Committee, Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee. In 1985, at the Fifth Plenary Session of the 12th CPC Central Committee, he was elected as member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, secretary of the secretariat and secretary of the Central Political and Legal Committee. In 1986, he was the vice premier of the State Council. In 1987 at the 13th CPC National Congress was elected Politburo member, Politburo Standing Committee, Secretary of the Secretariat, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection Commission. In 1989 concurrently the CPC Central Party School president.
