当前中国现代佛教文学的研究并不发达,主要聚焦在苏曼殊、弘一等重要僧人作家上面,故而导致若干学术“盲点”的存在:现代佛教思潮对僧人创作的巨大影响尚未深入分析,五四以后的学僧作家群长期湮没无闻。为此,应着重做好以下几个方面工作,以进一步推动其研究进展:考虑到现代僧人作家的创作实际,“僧人文学”作为专门的概念具有现实的可行性;开展现代佛教思潮、民国佛教期刊与僧人创作“三位一体”的综合研究;运用比较方法,推动现代重要僧人作家如八指头陀、苏曼殊与弘一等研究的深入;中国现代佛教文学作为中国现代文学的一个分支,加强其与五四新文学关系的考察。
