南社是辛亥革命时期进步的文学团体,1909年由陈去病、高旭、柳亚子等发起成立于苏州。社名取“操南音不忘其旧”之意,宣传资产阶级民主革命,反对清王朝的专制统治。该社早期参加者多为同盟会成员,其后会员发展达千余人。辛亥革命后部分成员参加反对袁世凯的斗争。1923年,南社因内部分化而停止活动。同年,柳亚子、叶楚伧、陈望道等发起组织新南社,参加新文化
Nanshe is a progressive literature group during the Revolution of 1911. It was founded in Suzhou in 1909 by Chen Qubing, Gao Xu and Liu Yazi. The name of the community is “propaganda Nanyin never forget its old” meaning propaganda bourgeois democratic revolution, opposed to the dictatorship of the Qing dynasty. Early members of the club are mostly members of the League, and later developed more than a thousand members. After the Revolution, some members took part in the struggle against Yuan Shikai. In 1923, Nanshe stopped its activities due to internal divisions.
