今年5月,著名的美籍华裔物理学家丁肇中邀请新上任的外交学院院长吴建民(原驻法大使)到他家里做客,吴院长向丁教授提了一个要求,请丁教授到外交学院讲课。丁教授欣然同意了。外交学院为什么要请著名的物理学家丁肇中教授讲课呢?吴院长说:“道理很简单,优秀的外交官是通才,而不是专才,是杂家,懂的世界很广,特别是对科学的理念要有一定的认识。”丁教授所要讲的是对过去30年物理研究的回顾。他现在正在国际太空站搞一个实验,就是AMS(AlphaMagneticSpectrometer阿尔法磁谱仪),研究有没有反物质。吴院长曾问过他一个问题:“你怎么想起这个点子的———反物质?”他说:“我是在家里散步的时候想出来的。”他家里有个小树林,他经常在那里散步。演讲前,吴院长问教授,“你怎么把一个非常复杂的问题用简单的话给大家讲清楚?”教授回答说:“真理总是很简单的。”
