In the seventies and eighties appeared in the third post-war main battle tanks, “Merkava” and “T-72” is the only one pair of vehicles after the battle assessment. Due to the different fighting situations and training qualities involved, it is reported that “Merkava” has also achieved the comparative advantage of confrontation. Therefore, despite its design-anti-tank development of the normal, still aroused widespread interest. In recent years, both at home and abroad, comments on “Merkava” have been mixed. The author does not want to make improper comments, only from the perspective of tank design to analyze the design idea of “Merkava”. A large, complex tank that affects the entire nation’s weapons research and production as a whole, its design philosophy can never leave the country’s national conditions and the chief designer. This article wants to start from this.
