通过对珙桐与喜树茎次生木质部的比较解剖学观察,发现两种植物次生木质部结构中导管的穿孔类型虽然都属于梯状穿孔板,但穿孔的长短和穿孔上的横隔数却存在明显的差别.珙桐的导管梯状穿孔板上的横隔有77条,而喜树只有26条.表明两者在系统发育上可能不是处在一个水平上.
