Li Kui’s “innocence” Zen, Buddhism as the root; in Buddhism, and Zen as a path. He not only regards Buddhism’s religious appeal as life and death, but also includes both Confucianism and Taoism. In terms of methodology, Zen Buddhism is characterized by such features as being straightforward and acting on nature, pushing the worldly community from the jungle Buddhist temple and attempting to establish a “Buddhist innocence” that encompasses the three religions. This “innocence ” is not only true truth, but also its Zen “vacuum ” as the origin. Or thinking that Li Kui borrowed the Zen way of thinking solely on the academic level, he neglected the religious nature of his thought and could not understand why his doctrine was so blazing and decisive.
