Thrombin-activated fibrinolysis inhibitor (TAFI) is a new coagulation and fibrinolytic regulatory factor discovered in recent years. The basic research of TAFI supplements traditional coagulation and fibrinolytic mechanisms. Activated TAFI (TAFI-a) can exert fibrinolytic inhibition and promote thrombosis by losing fibrinolytic site. Further research into TAFI may open new avenues for the treatment of thrombotic disorders. This article reviews the literature and summarizes the association between TAFI and deep venous thrombosis.
