基思·托马斯是英国当代史学名宿,西方新文化史的代表性人物,他以《宗教与魔法的衰落》和《人类与自然世界》等著作饮誉国际史坛。托马斯也以倡导史学新方法著称,其历史人类学的方法经他与弟子彼得·伯克、阿兰·麦克法兰等人的实践,开创了文化史研究的新局面,形成了持久的影响力。托马斯历史人类学方法的理论来源复杂,主要是受英国社会人类学、英国马克思主义史学流派和韦伯的现代性理论的影响,兼收各家之长的同时,也有其内在的悖论。
Keith Thomas is a famous British contemporary historiography, a representative figure in the history of the new culture of the West. He praised the international historical scene with his works such as “the decline of religion and magic” and “the world of mankind and nature.” Thomas also known for advocating the new method of history, his method of historical anthropology and his disciples Peter Burke, Alan McFarland and others practice, created a new situation in the study of cultural history, the formation of a lasting influence. The sources of Thomas’ theory of historical anthropology are complex, mainly influenced by British social anthropology, the British Marxist school of history and Weber’s theory of modernity, which takes into account the strengths of every family and also has its inherent paradox.
