在高技术产品的市场竞争中,产品开发面临的一个普遍问题,就是生产第一个产品所需要的成本比以后再生产的单位产品成本要高许多。这通常被叫做“第一件产品成本”的挑战。因此,有的企业在这个挑战面前或不敢涉足某些开发成本高的产品,或因开发成本过高,难以收回而发生亏损,导致失败。越是开发投资高、寿命短的高科技产品,“第一件产品成本”的挑战越是严峻,它几乎成了许多企业难以逾越的鸿沟。对那些面对“第一件产品成本”挑战的企业来说,建立在模块化基础上的平台策略,可以说是他们的最佳选择。
In the market competition of high-tech products, a common problem faced by product development is that the cost of producing the first product is much higher than the cost of the unit product to be reproduced later. This is often called the challenge of “the first product cost.” Therefore, some enterprises are facing this challenge or dare not to set foot in some products with high development costs, or because of the high development costs, unmanageable losses, resulting in failure. The more developed high-tech products with high investment and short life expectancy, the more severe the challenge of “the first product cost” is that it has almost become an insurmountable gap for many enterprises. For those facing the “first product cost challenge,” a platform strategy built on a modular basis is arguably the best choice for them.
