1965年7月21日,毛泽东在《致陈毅》的信中说:“我对五言律,从来没有学习过,也没有发表过一首五言律。”他在这里说的“学习”,指的是“深入钻研”。从他所说的“没有发表过一首五言律”一语中,我们得知,毛泽东是写过五言律的,只是“没有发表过”而已。毛泽东究竟写过多少首五言律诗呢?至今还不得而知。现在我们能够从中央文献出版社1996年9月出版的《毛泽东诗词集》里,读到毛泽东写的五言律诗,有四首。最早一首写于抗日战争时期,有两首写于解放战争时期,还有一首写于社会主义建设时期。 写于抗日战争时期的一首是:
