在山东省莒南县后左山早白垩世大盛群田家楼组(巴列姆-阿普特期)发现保存在泥质粉砂岩层面上的5个连续的足迹.经研究,认为是一新类型鸟类足迹化石,命名为Shandongornipes(山东鸟足迹).足迹中大型、四趾,宽约5.8cm,全长(含拇指)8.7cm.趾迹纤细,末端均有细长的爪迹.拇指(Ⅰ趾)向后,趾印清晰,各趾趾垫通常为3个.Ⅱ~Ⅳ趾间角变化范围128°~142°.趾间无蹼状构造.足迹最显著的特征是:Ⅱ,Ⅲ,Ⅳ三趾中轴不对称,Ⅱ-Ⅲ趾间角较大(范围91°~118°),以及足迹长(不含拇指)与宽近等.该足迹是中国最早的鸟类足迹之一,也是迄今为止在中国境内发现的惟一的新遗迹属.它形成于河漫滩环境,与大量兽脚类、鸟脚类恐龙足迹共生.
