The paper explores the newness of globalization and what it means for the future of the city. At the beginning of the article, I proposed that we must consider globalization as a whole and regard globalization as part of the compounding effect of various forces such as technology, economy and social-culture. I also point out that globalization is a gradual rather than an emergent process. Although there are obvious changes in each age, but also includes the continuity. Globalization is no exception. I also compared it with the previous era. In my definition, globalization consists of five basic elements: (1) new technologies; (2) the key to information (made possible by instant messaging); (3) the growing trend towards the standardization of economic and social products; (4) ) Growing cross-border integration; and (5) shared vulnerability resulting from a greater degree of interdependence. In the last part of the paper, we list the positive and negative impacts that globalization may have on cities. Positive effects include the growth of wealth, the lasting importance of urban centers and the improvement of democracy. The negative aspects include the growing imbalance, the worsening social order and the expectation of the public. Finally, make suggestions on how to deal with these issues
